A Warm Welcome from Antigua Estates

1
As we welcome the warmth of the month of May, we're counting our blessings and taking extra precautions to keep the spread of the virus to a minimum. With only 24 confirmed cases to date and increased testing, Antigua and Barbuda are definitely making strides in the right direction.

Life in Jolly Harbour is steadily resuming, with many restaurants re-opening albeit in a limited capacity following government guidelines with offering pick-up and delivery services. The "Epi" supermarket is well stocked and equipped with hand washing stations, freshly sanitized shopping carts and well-organized crowd control, to conform to social distancing. Even the roadside fruit and baked goods vendors are out on a daily basis sporting their protective masks for those who prefer a quick stop.

In this month's newsletter, we share some interesting facts about being near the sea as well as a video displaying Antigua and Barbuda's beauty. Please enjoy!

Our team is always readily available via telephone or email so feel free to call or drop us a line at info@antiguaestates.com. We'd love to hear from you!

Health Benefits of Being Near the Sea

The beach is one of the most relaxing places to be and even better, it can be beneficial to your health! Here are some of the ways the ocean can keep you and your family healthy:
  • Stress relief - definitely helpful during this high-stress period
  • Get your daily amount of Vitamin D in just 10 minutes
  • Improve your ability to fight off infections - Salt water has unique antibacterial and anti-fungal properties making it excellent for both external and internal infections. The iodine in ocean water is not only highly antiseptic (it’s used in hospitals and surgeries all the time), but it helps boost the function of the thyroid gland which, in turn, boosts our immune system’s function.
  • Reduce inflammation and pain with water aerobics
  • Get a better night's sleep after a day at the beach - The sea air is stocked with healthy negative ions, which accelerate our ability to absorb oxygen. This effect in addition to the relaxing qualities of the beach leads to a better sleep.
  • Breathe easier during and after a day at the beach - Studies show that individuals with asthma, COPD, or breathing difficulties will find that it’s far easier to breathe when on the beach, than almost anywhere else.
With Antigua being only 108 sq miles and completely surrounded by beaches, it's almost impossible not to run into a beach!

New in News... Oldest Man to Cross the Atlantic

Graham Walters
British pensioner Graham Walters has become the oldest man to ever complete the grueling journey across the Atlantic ocean at 72 years of age. Setting off from Gran Canaria on January 25th, he completed the record-breaking crossing in 96 days arriving in Antigua on April 29th. His boat is called The George Geary after his grandfather and was built by Graham himself in his front garden 22 years ago. This last challenge before hanging up his oars leaves Graham holding 3 world records - The oldest person to row across the Atlantic solo; oldest person to row across any ocean solo; and the oldest person to row across the same ocean multiple times. Not a bad finale at all, Well done Graham!!
